About

History of The Globe

The Globe was built in 1833 in what was then called Green Vale, alongside Glossop Brook. This still forms a wildlife corridor for dippers, wagtails, heron and brown trout (No fishing!). The main stable block was lost to fire long ago, but the remaining stable has been transformed into The Globe Brewery (see tasting notes) with Toby Brookes in charge.

Music had thrived here - starting in 2000 local enthusiasts formed "The Lift Global Music Club", staging countless superb musicians from every continent except Antarctica!

Jennings Brewery owned The Globe at the time, and after the B.S.E outbreak they put many of their pubs on the market. We thought we would lose our wonderful venue until Ron Brookes bought it at auction in London. Diana Virgo became the licensee in 2002 and she and Ron have been running it ever since, with "Team Globe" - excellent staff, many of whom are musicians.

Live Music and Entertainment

2002 saw the start of our Monday night acoustic sessions founded by Matt Fahey, Gerry Robinson and others, and now the numbers of participants have swelled. We welcome regulars, guests and newcomers. For Thursday night folk concerts see Jamie Knowles website Concerts at the Globe.

The function room is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and projection and is available for hire - please phone us for availability. Please see listings for the weekly live music.

Our Quizmaster Steve has been teasing the little grey cells on a Wednesday for over 10 years. Everyone wins a bowl of delicious hotpot!

Twice a year we welcome the Powderkegs - a Border Morris side whose exuberant presence brings a joyous energy to the beer garden. You may get a glimpse of the Globe Dragon.

Vegan Pub Grub

Naturally all the food served is 100% vegan ~ The Globe Inn has been awarded the "Best pub for vegetarians & vegans" award by Viva! in 2014. It was also listed as one of the "Top 10 Vegan Friendly Pubs in the UK" by the PeTA in2015. See our Menu.

Di's Lovely Beer Garden

The award winning beer garden is a hidden gem - sheltered from the bustle of the A57 it is a gardener's delight... transformed over the years and ever evolving it is a scented sanctuary in Summer with a changing palette of colour that flows with the seasons.

Home grown brews

We have our very own brewery at The Globe where Toby Brookes, the head brewer, produces a great selection of traditional Real ales & vegan beers for you to try. Traditional home grown beers at old fashioned prices. Find out more about our Brewery.
